It's a lovely day in the Neighborhood!!!

Well things are gearing up for Halloween and the weather is perfect!!! The Tihonet Village Market (Tihonet Road, Wareham - AD Makepeace Cranberries) is putting on a "Bog Freight Night"....00000000 scarey....... Actually several years ago a friend of mine's son was part of this freight night and scared me to death, a couple times!! I knew it was high school kids but none the less they scared me. I haven't been in quite a while so I'm not sure of the measure of goolishness, but just beware......

On a not-so-scarey note there are Cranberry Bog Tours being offered at AD Makepeace Cranberries during the day. Call ahead for dates and times....508-295-5437, the bogs at AD Makepeace are "wet" picked. The folks at Flax Pond Farms Cranberry Bog (508-866-3654) are very informative about how bogs are built and "dry" picked, they have a wonderful gift shop on the premises.

The Pilgrim Hall Museum is featuring a very interesting exhibit entitled "What's Under Things?", Yup, you guessed it, it's about underwear!!! This exhibit runs through December 31, 2011, check it out and see if you could have worn these, comfortable (?!?!) items....

Whatever you choose to do while in Plymouth, have fun, enjoy and don't forget to eat lots of seafood!!!!

You understand I'm sure... Anyway, this weekend brings alot of happenings... King Richard's Faire continues on Saturdays and Sundays through 10/23/11. Also this weekend; The 8th Annual Cranberry Festival held at A.D. Makepeace, Wareham, MA. The weather is supposed to be unseasonably warm, in the 80's! So get our there and enjoy........ Oh I forgot.... the leaves are changing... get your fill of our beautiful Fall foliage before it's on the ground!!

What a day, what a weekend coming up!

What an amazing day!!! It is absolutely beautiful outside, the perfect touring weather.

Clean crisp air, bright blue skies perfect apple picking weather. We went a couple weekends ago and filled up on Ginger Golds, McIntosh and Gala apples, yum yum. I know this blog is supposed to be about Plymouth but I must tell you about a fabulous museum I visited out in Lincoln, MA, it's about an hour from here but definitely worth it: deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, check out their website, then GO! You won't be disappointed.

Now back to Plymouth and closer areas..... this weekend is the 42nd Bourne Scallop Festival, (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). This festival has been chosen a number of times as one of the Top 100 attractions in the US & Canada to attend. The festival is held rain or shine, there is a juried craft show, live entertainment, midway rides & games and of course a Scallop or Herb Roasted Chicken Dinner(for those not wanting scallops). The dinners are served with french fries, cole slaw, rolls and butter, and soda. If your not in the mood for a dinner; there is also a food court with lobster rolls, beer & wine, chowder, a raw bar, hot dogs & hamburgers, enough for anyone.

Plymouth will be having a juried art show and stroll this Saturday. Lastly, the bogs are starting to be picked, I know alot of you like to come here to watch the bogs being worked. Keep in mind you MUST get permission from the owners if you want to go on the bogs. Otherwise visit Makepeace on Tihonet Road in Wareham or Flax Pond Bogs in Carver to get a tour. Have a great weekend!!!!

Here comes the Big Weekend!!!! woot woot

Let's see upcoming events for this weekend......hmmmm.... The Cape Cod Bay Challenge!!! departing Plymouth Long Beach paddling at 5:00am and arriving in Wellfleet (34 miles away!!) some 10 hrs later. These folks are dedicated, this isn't something that you wake up one morning and say "I think I'll paddle to Wellfleet!" they train for many months. The reason behind this event is to raise awareness and money for Christopher's Haven in Boston. CH is a place for families to stay when their child is stricken with cancer and need treatment from Mass General Hospital. This year there are 75 paddlers going across. Good luck to all!!!

The 144th Annual Marshfield Fair kicks off Friday and will continue through August 28. They have a demolition derby, motorcross, truck pulling, 4H shows, music, just way too many things to list here, go to www.marshfieldfair.org enjoy!!!

What a Beautiful Time of Year!

What an absolutely fabulous day! It's bright, sunny, warm, a few scattered puffy clouds in the sky just a fantastic day. After work beach here I come!

One of the nice things about Summer is all the fresh vegies available. Which reminds me of a New England tradition; the Farmers Market. In Plymouth they are held Thursdays at Stephen's Field and Saturdays in Downtown Plymouth, if you can't make it on Thursdays and Saturdays go to www.farmfresh.org for a list of towns nearby.

Some of the fun things to do in Plymouth on these beautiful days if your not at the beach:

Pirate Cruises for the young ones go out twice daily from the wharf, this cruise is appropriate for kids ages 4-11yrs old, check out the website; www.plymouthcruises.com.
For the older crowd aboard the Pilgrim Belle are dinner cruises on Wednesday nights, reservations required or harbor cruises daily. the website; www.plymouthharborcruises.com.

Check back occasionally as I will give you other ideas to fill your days here in Plymouth.
Thanks for reading, and have a sunny day!

I'm baaack.......

Wow!!! Has it really been 4 months since I've written??? Please forgive me, I've been so busy... I know it's not an excuse, but it is reality. Anyway... the summer here in Plymouth has been heating up, so many things are going on this weekend and throughout the rest of the summer. Baseball and softball tournaments, Wednesday evening dinner cruises aboard the Pilgrim Belle Paddle Wheel boat, concerts on the green, etc, etc. A great place to find out what's happening is a website www.seeplymouth.com, then click on events! On another note, the Cape Cod Bay Challenge had their race on the Charles River, Boston (Challenge on the Charles) this past weekend. What a fantastic day! check out their website: www.capecodbaychallenge.org or you can view the facebook page to see pics of the event. Beautiful day, awesome people, all for a great cause, Christopher's Haven. Hopefully I will be able to write more frequently..see you on the beach!

It's Warming Up!!!

Well like I said Spring is around the corner... I know I know I'm pushing it alittle since it's only the beginning of Feb.. but the temperature has been above freezing the past few days it's raining not snowing... all positive signs that Spring is coming. I was talking with a colleague yesterday, he told me he has tiny shoots coming in his flower beds..crocuses probably.

As for Plymouth there are different activities planned for February school vacation week. Check out Pilgrim Hall Museum where kids are free with paying adult, and that's just the beginning. To get a more complete listing of happenings go to www.seeplymouth.com.

Hopefully this weather will continue on this course and Punxsutawney Phil's prediction of an early Spring will be correct!

Eeeeek !!! Will it ever end???

So here we go again! Right now as I look out the window, the snow has changed over to freezing rain.. what fun.. I can't wait to drive home.. slow but sure wins the race.. I suppose you could think that it's somewhat romantic, being snowed in with your loved one (animal or human) and a nice hot chocolate in front of the fire... think about it doesn't that sound romantic? wait...wait... day dream...enjoy the visual in your mind...comfy?? cozy?? OK, now add this to the equation.. power outage!! Yeah!! with any good storm comes a power outage, plummeting temperatures in the house, no water (if you have a well; which means no bathroom), then you realize you forgot to buy batteries for your one flashlight! Yes folks this is living large in New England.... but once this is all behind us....break out the sun and fun, Spring is right around the corner. Keep warm and drive safely on the icy roads.

Oooh Heatwave, it's got to be at least 17 degrees!!

OK, so I came out of hibernation....Yikes, when will it ever end?? We are expecting more snow today into tonight and then again next week!!! We are running out of space to put the snow!!! There are mountains of it everywhere, maybe we should open a ski slope or tubing park!!! Well at least the Plimouth Plantation Cinema is still open and the Pilgrim Hall Museum will re open beginning of February. Other than that the ocean is COLD, not only does it feel cold, it looks cold, with the winter storms it's just not a nice place to be right now..wait a couple months and we'll be back in the water! Back into hibernation, I'll be dreaming of warm sunny days and listening to the sounds of waves hitting the beach and seagulls flying about in the distance.....ahhhh...
