OK I can't tell a lie..it's FREEZING here!!!

Yikes, I can't believe it, though I really shouldn't be surprised it is the end of December, after all, it's FREEZING!!! We got a monsterous snowstorm Sunday into Monday, power outages, slippery roads, all the good stuff to use as an excuse not to come to work... But now that the roads are clear and everything is open life is back to normal, for December. Can you get the vibe here?!?!? I'm not overly impressed by winter anymore. I used to love winter, skiing, sledding, yadah yadah, but now..... I must say I prefer sun. But enough about what I like and want....
Let's get down to what's going on in Plymouth during the off-season... The hotel rates have dropped from the summer, the restaurants have wonderful specials, at many of the restaurants you can choose fixed price menus, see Waterfront Bar & Grill and East Bay Grill (Sunday - Thursday), or the traditional menu at all restaurants. Indoor recreation has geared up,The Pilgrim Hall Museum closes for the month of January but opens up February 1 with new exhibits. Skating rinks, indoor basketball courts, and MMA arenas are all busy with competitions. Don't forget every Friday and Saturday night the Plimoth Plantation Cinema is open with new movies, the Plymouth Center for the Arts is open and don't forget Dead of Night Ghost Tours is open all year long, so bundle up and go on a ghost hunting adventure! Have fun, stay warm and enjoy the winter...I'll be hibernating thank you very much...

Are You Feeling HOT HOT HOT????

Yikes! It has been sooooo hot here lately... in the 90's. Now I know some of you LOVE the heat, me... not so much....give me 70's and 80's and I'm a happy camper. But I guess you have to take the summer heat in stride because the winter cold is just a few months away.. This has been a good year for Plymouth, new restaurants opening, new attractions, new shopping, new things to do..... Speaking of restaurants.. I like to go out and check out the "new" places and give you my feedback..... Well here it goes.... Waterfront Bar and Grill in Village Landing - delish! They have some of the best Ahi Tuna and Calamari in town. Nice location the rooftop over looks the water and busy Water Street with all kinds of people watching! 14 Union has been sold and the new owners have revamped the menu which looks good (I have only tried the apps, which were yummy, so I can't really comment on the entrees). The location is fab, overlooking the marina directly on the water. You can watch the boats coming and going and dream..... Cupcake Charlies...need I say more??? this little cupcake only bakery is located on the wharf and serves up some of the yummiest cupcakes..I have a fancy for the "Hostess with the Mostest" cupcake, just like the old fashioned Hostess Cupcake with the little squiggle! I have to control myself when I'm downtown, too many cupcakes are not good for me.... As for new attractions and things to do.. 2 Natvie American brothers have formed a walking history tour from the Native American point of view.. Native Plymouth Tours it's approximately 1 1/2 hrs long while walking 1 mile. The Plimoth Cinema at the Plantation has movie night every Friday night and plays throughout the week... Pilgrim Hall Museum has "Plymouth History in a Glass"... As far as shopping "Colony Place", the "Village Marketplace" and downtown.. fun.. fun.. fun for all you shopaholics (is that even a real word?)! Anyway, what ever you decide to do in Plymouth have fun and enjoy, after all this is where it all started!

Drizzle drizzle

Well, it's a typical New England early summer day.. a bit drizzly and chilly.. but the weekend is supposed to be beautiful...sunny.. maybe not as warm as we would like, but nice none the less. The first race for the Cape Cod Bay Challenge is Saturday at Whitecrest Beach in Wellfleet. It sounds crazy but I'm going just to watch... they have an 800 yd paddle then a 200 yd run all done 8 times!!!!! Insane, especially if the surf is kicking up....It should be entertaining... Did you know the HGTV Green House was here in Plymouth? Well it is and you can tour it for a while until it's given away.. It's in the Pinehills section of Plymouth, go see it! There will be an art exhibit this weekend "Splash of Color" at the Plymouth Library over 50 pieces, watercolors, oils and acrylics from the Council on Aging. The Plimoth Plantation is abuzz with all kinds of activities this weekend, look at their website, www.plimoth.org.

It's going to be a beautiful weekend..get out there and enjoy it!

Summer is here!

Well finally, the season we have all been waiting for Summer. Attractions, shops, restaurants and the beaches are getting crowded, especially on the weekend. This past weekend, Memorial Day, was beautiful for visiting Plymouth, not too hot and definitely not too cold. Went to the beach Sunday night for a paddle with my hubby and the water was a little chilly, but the air was beautiful and the sunset gorgeous. The whale watching has been great from what I hear, and the ghosts are doing their thing nightly. A couple new restaurants opened up; Patrizia's and 14 Union (under new ownership) and Water Street Bar & Grill is scheduled to open shortly. I haven't been to Patrizia's but I heard it is fabulous (from my daughter the foodie), I have had the pleasure of having a function where 14 Union catered the appetisers, and if the apps are any indication of what the entrees are, I can't wait to go! All kinds of activities are going on for the month of June. Believe it or not the tickets for Thanksgiving at the Plimoth Plantation go on sale today! Can you plan that far ahead!?

Spring is coming...come on down!

Well, it's the end of the week and guess what it's raining...... Wednesday it was in the high 80's low 90's, now today 50's. This time of year is such a crap shoot when it comes to weather. Most of the tourist attractions are either open or are opening by the middle of the month, so come on down! It's supposed to be a beautiful Saturday, so people will be out and about. The trees and flowers are blooming...spring is here...yah!!! I walked the beach with a friend Wednesday, it was absolutely beautiful, people were laying out sunning themselves, kids playing in the water, dogs and horses walking the coastline...ahhhhh... it was like a teaser...summer is coming. After our walk I actually went home and put on my wetsuit and went supping with my hubby. All he had on was boardshorts and a t-shirt, I'm not that brave, the water is still too cold for me. It was fantastic the water was calm and the sun hot, just the way I like it! After our little paddle he did a quick training paddle, he is training for the Cape Cod Bay Challenge coming up in August, a 30 mile open ocean stand up paddle from Plymouth to P-town! check out the website: www.capecodbaychallenge.org , maybe you'd like to join them!

The snow is gone!!!!

The snow is finally gone!!!! yah!!!! Don't get me wrong I love snow, in New Hampshire, Maine or Vermont. But in Plymouth, not so much. Today the sun is actually out and we have reached temps in the 50's!! A heat wave you might say, I don't know how long this will last, but it does give one pause, with daydreams of Spring, green grass, crocuses and daffodils...ahhhh....
Nothing much goes on in Plymouth during the winter, the attractions are on a skeleton schedule, the stores downtown and on the waterfront close until Spring, but the restaurants usually have some pretty good deals. Quite a few offer 2 dinners and desserts for fixed price, and some are really good, believe me I've tried a few! Anyway, I'll sign off , like I said not too much to talk about in Plymouth now, but the warmer temps are on their way!
