The Tihonet Village Market (Tihonet Road, Wareham - AD Makepeace Cranberries) is putting on a "Bog Freight Night"....00000000 scarey....... Actually several years ago a friend of mine's son was part of this freight night and scared me to death, a couple times!! I knew it was high school kids but none the less they scared me. I haven't been in quite a while so I'm not sure of the measure of goolishness, but just beware......

On a not-so-scarey note there are Cranberry Bog Tours being offered at AD Makepeace Cranberries during the day. Call ahead for dates and times....508-295-5437, the bogs at AD Makepeace are "wet" picked. The folks at Flax Pond Farms Cranberry Bog (508-866-3654) are very informative about how bogs are built and "dry" picked, they have a wonderful gift shop on the premises.

The Pilgrim Hall Museum is featuring a very interesting exhibit entitled "What's Under Things?", Yup, you guessed it, it's about underwear!!! This exhibit runs through December 31, 2011, check it out and see if you could have worn these, comfortable (?!?!) items....

Whatever you choose to do while in Plymouth, have fun, enjoy and don't forget to eat lots of seafood!!!!

It's Fall in Plymouth - What a Great Time of Year

Ahhhh.... the air is crisp and refreshing this time of year. It is absolutely beautiful outside, the perfect touring weather.

Clean crisp air, bright blue skies perfect apple picking weather. We went a couple weekends ago and filled up on Ginger Golds, McIntosh and Gala apples, yum yum. I know this blog is supposed to be about Plymouth but I must tell you about a fabulous museum I visited out in Lincoln, MA, it's about an hour from here but definitely worth it: deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, check out their website, then GO! You won't be disappointed.

Now back to Plymouth and closer areas..... this weekend is the 42nd Bourne Scallop Festival, (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). This festival has been chosen a number of times as one of the Top 100 attractions in the US & Canada to attend. The festival is held rain or shine, there is a juried craft show, live entertainment, midway rides & games and of course a Scallop or Herb Roasted Chicken Dinner(for those not wanting scallops). The dinners are served with french fries, cole slaw, rolls and butter, and soda. If your not in the mood for a dinner; there is also a food court with lobster rolls, beer & wine, chowder, a raw bar, hot dogs & hamburgers, enough for anyone.

Plymouth will be having a juried art show and stroll this Saturday. Lastly, the bogs are starting to be picked, I know alot of you like to come here to watch the bogs being worked. Keep in mind you MUST get permission from the owners if you want to go on the bogs. Otherwise visit Makepeace on Tihonet Road in Wareham or Flax Pond Bogs in Carver to get a tour. In Plymouth they are held Thursdays at Stephen's Field and Saturdays in Downtown Plymouth, if you can't make it on Thursdays and Saturdays go to www.farmfresh.org for a list of towns nearby.

Some of the fun things to do in Plymouth on these beautiful days if your not at the beach:

Pirate Cruises for the young ones go out twice daily from the wharf, this cruise is appropriate for kids ages 4-11yrs old, check out the website; www.plymouthcruises.com.
For the older crowd aboard the Pilgrim Belle are dinner cruises on Wednesday nights, reservations required or harbor cruises daily. the website; www.plymouthharborcruises.com.

Check back occasionally as I will give you other ideas to fill your days here in Plymouth.
Thanks for reading, and have a sunny day!

A Fun Weekend is Planned in Plymouth!!!

Hello everyone -

Just in case you need any more activities to choose from for this weekend...here's another one to add to your list.... Has it really been 4 months since I've written??? Please forgive me, I've been so busy... I know it's not an excuse, but it is reality. Anyway... the summer here in Plymouth has been heating up, so many things are going on this weekend and throughout the rest of the summer. Baseball and softball tournaments, Wednesday evening dinner cruises aboard the Pilgrim Belle Paddle Wheel boat, concerts on the green, etc, etc. A great place to find out what's happening is a website www.seeplymouth.com, then click on events! On another note, the Cape Cod Bay Challenge had their race on the Charles River, Boston (Challenge on the Charles) this past weekend. What a fantastic day! check out their website: www.capecodbaychallenge.org or you can view the facebook page to see pics of the event. Beautiful day, awesome people, all for a great cause, Christopher's Haven. Hopefully I will be able to write more frequently..see you on the beach!

It's Warming Up!!!

Well like I said Spring is around the corner... I know I know I'm pushing it alittle since it's only the beginning of Feb.. but the temperature has been above freezing the past few days it's raining not snowing... all positive signs that Spring is coming. I was talking with a colleague yesterday, he told me he has tiny shoots coming in his flower beds..crocuses probably.

As for Plymouth there are different activities planned for February school vacation week. Check out Pilgrim Hall Museum where kids are free with paying adult, and that's just the beginning. Yeah!! with any good storm comes a power outage, plummeting temperatures in the house, no water (if you have a well; which means no bathroom), then you realize you forgot to buy batteries for your one flashlight! Yes folks this is living large in New England.... but once this is all behind us....break out the sun and fun, Spring is right around the corner. We are expecting more snow today into tonight and then again next week!!! We are running out of space to put the snow!!! There are mountains of it everywhere, maybe we should open a ski slope or tubing park!!! Well at least the Plimouth Plantation Cinema is still open and the Pilgrim Hall Museum will re open beginning of February. Other than that the ocean is COLD, not only does it feel cold, it looks cold, with the winter storms it's just not a nice place to be right now..wait a couple months and we'll be back in the water! Back into hibernation, I'll be dreaming of warm sunny days and listening to the sounds of waves hitting the beach and seagulls flying about in the distance.....ahhhh...

OK I can't tell a lie..it's FREEZING here!!!

Yikes, I can't believe it, though I really shouldn't be surprised it is the end of December, after all, it's FREEZING!!! We got a monsterous snowstorm Sunday into Monday, power outages, slippery roads, all the good stuff to use as an excuse not to come to work... But now that the roads are clear and everything is open life is back to normal, for December. Can you get the vibe here?!?!? I'm not overly impressed by winter anymore. I used to love winter, skiing, sledding, yadah yadah, but now..... I must say I prefer sun. But enough about what I like and want....
Let's get down to what's going on in Plymouth during the off-season... The hotel rates have dropped from the summer, the restaurants have wonderful specials, at many of the restaurants you can choose fixed price menus, see Waterfront Bar & Grill and East Bay Grill (Sunday - Thursday), or the traditional menu at all restaurants. Indoor recreation has geared up,The Pilgrim Hall Museum closes for the month of January but opens up February 1 with new exhibits. Skating rinks, indoor basketball courts, and MMA arenas are all busy with competitions. Don't forget every Friday and Saturday night the Plimoth Plantation Cinema is open with new movies, the Plymouth Center for the Arts is open and don't forget Dead of Night Ghost Tours is open all year long, so bundle up and go on a ghost hunting adventure! It has been sooooo hot here lately... in the 90's. Now I know some of you LOVE the heat, me... not so much....give me 70's and 80's and I'm a happy camper. But I guess you have to take the summer heat in stride because the winter cold is just a few months away.. This has been a good year for Plymouth, new restaurants opening, new attractions, new shopping, new things to do..... Speaking of restaurants.. I like to go out and check out the "new" places and give you my feedback..... Well here it goes.... Waterfront Bar and Grill in Village Landing - delish! They have some of the best Ahi Tuna and Calamari in town. Nice location the rooftop over looks the water and busy Water Street with all kinds of people watching! 14 Union has been sold and the new owners have revamped the menu which looks good (I have only tried the apps, which were yummy, so I can't really comment on the entrees). The location is fab, overlooking the marina directly on the water. You can watch the boats coming and going and dream..... Cupcake Charlies...need I say more??? this little cupcake only bakery is located on the wharf and serves up some of the yummiest cupcakes..I have a fancy for the "Hostess with the Mostest" cupcake, just like the old fashioned Hostess Cupcake with the little squiggle! I have to control myself when I'm downtown, too many cupcakes are not good for me.... As for new attractions and things to do.. 2 Natvie American brothers have formed a walking history tour from the Native American point of view.. Native Plymouth Tours it's approximately 1 1/2 hrs long while walking 1 mile. The Plimoth Cinema at the Plantation has movie night every Friday night and plays throughout the week... Pilgrim Hall Museum has "Plymouth History in a Glass"... As far as shopping "Colony Place", the "Village Marketplace" and downtown.. fun.. fun.. fun for all you shopaholics (is that even a real word?)! Anyway, what ever you decide to do in Plymouth have fun and enjoy, after all this is where it all started!

Drizzle drizzle

Well, it's a typical New England early summer day.. a bit drizzly and chilly.. but the weekend is supposed to be beautiful...sunny.. maybe not as warm as we would like, but nice none the less. It sounds crazy but I'm going just to watch... they have an 800 yd paddle then a 200 yd run all done 8 times!!!!! Insane, especially if the surf is kicking up....It should be entertaining... Did you know the HGTV Green House was here in Plymouth? Well it is and you can tour it for a while until it's given away.. There will be an art exhibit this weekend "Splash of Color" at the Plymouth Library over 50 pieces, watercolors, oils and acrylics from the Council on Aging. Attractions, shops, restaurants and the beaches are getting crowded, especially on the weekend. This past weekend, Memorial Day, was beautiful for visiting Plymouth, not too hot and definitely not too cold. Went to the beach Sunday night for a paddle with my hubby and the water was a little chilly, but the air was beautiful and the sunset gorgeous. The whale watching has been great from what I hear, and the ghosts are doing their thing nightly. A couple new restaurants opened up; Patrizia's and 14 Union (under new ownership) and Water Street Bar & Grill is scheduled to open shortly. I haven't been to Patrizia's but I heard it is fabulous (from my daughter the foodie), I have had the pleasure of having a function where 14 Union catered the appetisers, and if the apps are any indication of what the entrees are, I can't wait to go! All kinds of activities are going on for the month of June. Believe it or not the tickets for Thanksgiving at the Plimoth Plantation go on sale today! Can you plan that far ahead!?

Spring is coming...come on down!

Well, it's the end of the week and guess what it's raining...... Wednesday it was in the high 80's low 90's, now today 50's. This time of year is such a crap shoot when it comes to weather. Most of the tourist attractions are either open or are opening by the middle of the month, so come on down! It's supposed to be a beautiful Saturday, so people will be out and about. The trees and flowers are blooming...spring is here...yah!!! I walked the beach with a friend Wednesday, it was absolutely beautiful, people were laying out sunning themselves, kids playing in the water, dogs and horses walking the coastline...ahhhhh... it was like a teaser...summer is coming. After our walk I actually went home and put on my wetsuit and went supping with my hubby. All he had on was boardshorts and a t-shirt, I'm not that brave, the water is still too cold for me. It was fantastic the water was calm and the sun hot, just the way I like it! After our little paddle he did a quick training paddle, he is training for the Cape Cod Bay Challenge coming up in August, a 30 mile open ocean stand up paddle from Plymouth to P-town! check out the website: www.capecodbaychallenge.org , maybe you'd like to join them!

The snow is gone!!!!

The snow is finally gone!!!! yah!!!! Don't get me wrong I love snow, in New Hampshire, Maine or Vermont. But in Plymouth, not so much. Today the sun is actually out and we have reached temps in the 50's!! A heat wave you might say, I don't know how long this will last, but it does give one pause, with daydreams of Spring, green grass, crocuses and daffodils...ahhhh....
Nothing much goes on in Plymouth during the winter, the attractions are on a skeleton schedule, the stores downtown and on the waterfront close until Spring, but the restaurants usually have some pretty good deals. Quite a few offer 2 dinners and desserts for fixed price, and some are really good, believe me I've tried a few! Anyway, I'll sign off , like I said not too much to talk about in Plymouth now, but the warmer temps are on their way!

WOW!! The Thanksgiving Parade was a huge success largely due to the weather; it was perfect. Just enough chill in the air, so you know it's Thanksgiving time, yet not to bitterly cold. The bands were great, Tops In Blue were fantastic. Everyone enjoyed themselves. It's starting to quiet down now, some restaurants are closing for the season, the main attractions, i.e. Plimoth Plantation, Capt. John's Whale Watching and the Jenney Grist Mill have also closed for the season. But still open and open all year long is the Dead Of Night Ghost Tours, a hauntingly fun walking tour through graveyards and historic places in Plymouth. The stores are all abuzz with frantic Christmas shoppers. All kinds of holiday celebrations are going on, house tours, wine tastings, tree lightings, santa breakfasts, Christmas story readings... really too many to mention them all. It's like a Dickens card come to life. January will bring lots of birding groups and star gazing groups, see http://www.seeplymouth.com/ for more information. Also, at the Comfort Inn we will be having special packages, including a Romance Spa Package and a Shop, Play and Stay Package, for all of you who want to cash in on the after-holiday sales! I'll try to post more often.. have a great day and a wonderful holiday season.

YUM! Another great find!

Sorry for the delay in getting back into this blog. I've been a wee bit busy. Just thought I should share this with you.. I've worked in this area for a LONG time and I just recently found a little restaurant on the waterfront called: Carmen's Cafe Nicole. YUM YUM YUM... My hubby and I went there Sunday for breakfast.. let me tell you... I had their Bananas Foster French Toast OMG it was fabulous!! Not too sweet, the french toast was fluffy, bananas a plenty, with a caramel sauce....Hubby had biscuits and gravy which he said was very good. The menu featured the usual bacon & eggs, etc but they had some dishes that had a Mexican flair to them. I love going out for breakfast to places that offer something out of the ordinary. I want to go back and try the Chile Rellenos breakfast. We only got to see the breakfast menu so I can't comment on the lunches. Every so often I will give you my opinion on different places to eat in the area.

This past weekend, Columbus Day Weekend, was the big weekend for Cranberry Festivals. As always they were packed with people from everywhere. Visitors this time of year are treated to a beautiful display of fall foliage reflecting off the ponds that surround the bogs. If you've never been to this part of the country, fall is a great time to come, the air is crisp and the colors intense. Well that's it for now.. have a great day and come visit Plymouth you'll be glad you did!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://plymouthtouristnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/yum-another-great-find.html' title='YUM! I on the other hand had a very relaxing weekend! Saturday was a beautiful day, blue skies, no clouds, and smooth seas.. My hubby and I went over to Martha's Vineyard on the Hy-Line cruise out of Hyannis. It took about an hour and half to get there but, like I said the seas were calm and the sun was shining. We spent about 4 1/2 hours there, checking out the art galleries, picnicing on the beach and checking out some of the shops. A trip to Martha's Vineyard is always a pleasure, there are many restaurants, shops and most important beaches, beaches, beaches. To end the perfect day - dinner at Khura Thai in Buzzards Bay, gotta love the Beef Crazy Noodles, hot!! Yum!!! A rainy Sunday kept me in to watch our New England Patriots stomp on the Atlanta Falcons 26-10. Sorry Atlanta it was looking good for you for a little while until Tom (Brady) finally found his groove. Have a great day!

Fall Happenings

Autumn officially began this week!
